Grocery Finds: Dr. Oetker Ristorante Pizza

There are 2 big groceries in Singapore: Cold Storage and Fairprice. The latter is homegrown and caters to the locals whereas the former caters to the expat crowd. Since I'm not a local, I find that a visit to both is always interesting. I've been in SG short enough that I find every visit yields me something new.

On one of those visits to Cold Storage, I found these boxes of Dr. Oetker Ristorante pizza. I have been hankering for something Italian and this looks like the answer to my prayers.

I decided to get a box of each: four cheese, mushroom, and cheese and tomato (pictured above).

See the pizzas unboxed after the jump!

Good thing my husband bought a Tefal oven which allows us to enjoy pizza at home whenever we want to. After 12 minutes in the oven at 220 degrees celius, they were ready to pop out:
formaggi & pomodori
Hmmm... does that look lovely? Or does that look lovely?

You can imagine the aroma at home when these were in the oven. Everyone was drooling and anticipating...

four cheese and mushroom
Four cheese and mushroom pizza. Halved each of the whole pizza and popped these in as well.Paired with freshly squeezed orange juice, my daughter and I are set. Great for instant lunches and dinners!

These were really good! Just the right flavors, not too salty. The ingredients were of good quality and even the fact that these are frozen ones does not necessarily translate to a stale crust and compromising freshness of the ingredients (though it wouldn't beat farm-to-table freshness). So I was very happy with these indeed! These pizzas are also the only time I can get my preschooler to eat tomatoes and veggies without spitting them back out, so I'm one happy Mama! A box is more than enough to feed my family of 3 (that's 2 adults and 1 preschooler).

For working mothers, I think this is a great alternative to eating out or buying food from the outside. Living in the heartlands, I find foreign dishes hard to find so spotting this was a blessing indeed!

Give it a try and let me know! :)

Trivia: Dr. Oetker is a German brand so I just find it ironic that this "Italian" fare did not originate from Italy and was not made by an Italian. The way I see it, as long as they make good pizza...

I admire what you have done here. I like the part where you say you are doing this to give back but I would assume by all the comments that this is working for you as well. Best Iranian Grocery Store
