Ridgewood Residence, Baguio
Over the long weekend last week due to the Bonifacio holiday, with less than a week to find a place in Baguio, we decided to stay at Ridgewood Residence. We decided to get the standard deluxe room because it had a veranda. For PhP 3,100.00 a night, it wasn't exactly cheap. We initially wanted to stay at Camp John Hay Manor but the PhP 5,2000 rate per night for a superior room is just so expensive. We found out too late that they had a lean season promo at 50% off which ended last September 2008. Maybe next year it'll be the same, and we'd be able to avail of it. Anyhow, enough of Camp John Hay Manor. This post is about Ridgewood Residence.
Ridgewood Residence is a bit of a distance from the bustling Session Road. Its nearest landmark is actually The Mansion and since it's also several meters from the street, to get around, we request the guard at the hotel to flag down a taxi for us. The good thing about this is that we are spared the noise of city life.
I appreciated that the standard deluxe room has wooden floors. I've already experienced staying in other places in Baguio where the floor is tiled and walking around in it barefoot is no easy feat! The room is simple with a double bed, closet, bathroom equipped with hot and cold shower, desk, cable TV, hangers provided in the closet, and the veranda (which really came in handy later on. Hehehehe!). I liked that they have a wide selection of channels to choose from. For the first time, I was able to watch shows on Discovery's Home & Health.
The stay also includes a complimentary buffet breakfast though they only serve one round of drinks to go with it and the selection is limited to coffee, tea, or chilled juice. We had to pay an extra PhP 50.00 for each chocolate drink. The menu for the buffet breakfast isn't something to rave about though it is enough to fill one's stomach. On the first day we had scrambled egg, pork longganisa, garlic fried rice, assorted cold cuts, slice of cheese, pandesal, Coco Crunch and Kellog's cereal, and fresh fruit slices. The second day was the same albeit we had pulang itlog instead of the scrambled egg and fried bangus instead of pork longganisa.
Considering that it was a long weekend and peak season, I guess the rates are understandable. Still, given how I prefer good deals, it's better to go during lean season to be able to enjoy discounts. :D Nonetheless, Ridgewood Residence delivers on cleanliness and a hospitable staff.
