Help CDO
It is evident with the death toll rising to 652 and 800 missing that the city of Cagayan de Oro was ill-prepared for Sendong. I can understand why the common kagay-anon wasn't alarmed and not prepared. CDO is rarely hit by typhoons. I grew up there and I can attest to that. That's why I easily get scared with typhoons here in Manila because I'm not used to having them. So when I saw the images of devastation online, I can only feel for them. Luckily for me, my family is well and our house still standing. But several of my mother's colleagues are not so fortunate. Some have lost their homes, others their loved ones, and some, lost both. This tragedy happened with nearly just a week before Christmas.
There are nearly 8,000 displaced families and rescue/retrieval operations are still ongoing. You can help. Used clothes, canned goods, water, cash are all appreciated. Kindly see the list below for details.

Addendum, skip since I'm just ranting:
I know it's not the right time to point fingers but I'm just wondering how this could have happened? There have been precedents already of flooding in the different areas in the Philippines just this year: flooding in Davao last June due to rain (that's just rain!) and the flooding in Pampanga area last September after Pedring. The local government of CDO, at the very least, could have instituted steps in place for such emergencies which would have, in most probability, lessen the number casualties. Just having a designated group overnight to monitor rainfall and then sirens in place to signal people and hopefully wake them up before the onslaught would have saved lives. What is the value of having the past if we don't learn from it? Not to mention all the other illegal activities that's happening in the city which I don't want to delve into now. Yun lang po. Nagpapalabas lang!
