Pasalubong from Bohol

These are the pasalubong that I bought in Bohol to bring with me back to Manila. Not included in the picture are the calamay of which I only bought two because they were really heavy and these didn't even make it to Manila.

Solo Lunch at Casa Verde, Cebu

Back in Cebu from my "backpacking" in Bohol, I left my luggage with my sister and having the day all to myself (my sister had to work that day), I decided to have lunch at Casa Verde at two in the afternoon. Having heard so much about it, well, recommended by friends and the high-praises, I decided to finally go check out the place.

Buffets at Boracay Regency

This is a totally separate post because I want to highlight the buffets at Boracay Regency. It was definitely a feast. We availed of their 3D/2N package and translated, that meant that we have 2 free buffet breakfasts and 2 free buffet dinners to go with the package. Read that? Free! :D Enough of me grinning, I'll let the pictures do the talking. Prepare to drool. :P

Dinner was the first buffet meal we had at Boracay Regency. Truth be told, I was hesitant to take pictures at first thus the quality of the pictures. :D Just click on the image to enlarge.

Boracay Regency Experience

I was in Boracay (my first time) last August together with my bf and we stayed at the Boracay Regency. By far, it was the best resort that I've been to (Just shows how much I have yet to see!). It was lean season that time so the rates were on a promo and on top of that, they also had a locals package which we availed of. This already included free round-trip transfers, welcome drinks, and buffet breakfast and dinner for two. By far, among the resorts that I've checked and canvassed (I spent a lot of time researching this), Boracay Regency offered the best value for money. It sure wasn't cheap but it sure was worth it. I had lots of pictures of the resort, the food, and Boracay in general that I just have to break these down.

Immediately after landing at the Caticlan airport, there was a Boracay Regency representative waiting for us at the arrival area and ushered us to their waiting van. It was the driver who carried our luggages for us. The van took us from the airport to the port which was actually just several hundred meters away (walkable), didn't even take 5 minutes to get there. We got off to move to the bangka which will take us across the sea to Boracay. They had mineral water and wet wipes waiting for us.

Overnight in Tagbilaran

It was nearly 6:00 p.m. and I had the evening all to myself. I decided to go out, see Tagbilaran City, buy some essentials at the nearest supermarket, and grab some dinner. I asked the receptionist where the nearest supermarket was and she pointed me to Alturas Supermarket. Armed with my Bohol EZ map, I set out on foot to find where this Alturas Supermarket is.

Soledad Suites, Bohol

Rather than proceed to Panglao and stay there for the evening, I decided to find a place to stay in Tagbilaran City since, first, it's cheaper, and second, I've already decided to go back to Cebu the very next day. Nong Jun, the driver/tour guide/photographer, was very accommodating in helping me find a place to stay in Tagbilaran. He patiently brought me to the different inns and pension houses in the area (taking my budget into consideration), until we got to Soledad Suites where I decided to stay for the night.

Bohol Countryside Tour: Part One

This was what greeted me when I emerged from Supercat ferry at approximately 9:45 a.m. on a sunny Saturday. Just look at the color of that water!

Cebu-Bohol "Backpacking" Experience

So I was supposed to go on a “backpacking” experience that would include Bohol, Malapascua, and Bantayan Islands but I only ended up in 2 destinations - Bohol and Cebu City. If you do think about it, it's just Bohol. Bantayan and Malapascua I had to forgo since I found out that I couldn’t do “backpacking”. Well I could, but I found out that I'm not a lone traveler. I like having company and someone to talk with. Talk about “backpacking” and checking into a hotel at the end of the day. I was sooo tired. I did lug around a very BIG and heavy backpack (lent to me by Manzay. Tenk you! Tenk you!). And I also went alone and made an acquaintance out of a stranger in the process. So give me some credit! :P

The “backpacking” experience is not for the faint of heart and it’s definitely not for everyone. There is so much lacking when it comes to accommodation, facilities, transportation, and guides for backpackers. This was the first time I have ever backpacked in the Philippines and alone to boot. Below are my observations and tips below:

Michael Crichton Dies at Age 66

Michael Crichton source: Wikipedia

Unrelated as this post may be, I would just like to pay homage to the man whose work - "Travels" had such a tremendous influence on me. He emphasized not only the importance of real-world travel, but also the importance of travel within one's self. For him, travel wasn't only seeing new places, it also included spoon-bending without exerting any force on the spoon, going to a psychic, having the dwarf on his shoulder removed. He didn't discount the existence of a spiritual world, the power of the mind, the paranormal. These are all experiences I want to experience myself.

Referred to by Perlow as America's Moral Technologist, it is such a loss that Michael Crichton died last Nov. 4, 2008 at the age of 66 fighting a personal battle with cancer. I am, most definitely, going to miss his future works.

Unblock! Unblock!

Alright! I'm already done with setting this website up but for some reason I can't seem to write a thing! Sniff! But I don't want to turn you away empty-handed, so here's the link to my online photo album http://hungryfortheworld.com/phpAlbum/>here and here.

Happy viewing! :)
